Level:
Beginner

prerequisites to follow this tutorial
A Flash CS5 or CS5.5 Air application that you have built.
Google account with Google Checkout set up with your credit card information.

So you’ve developed an app or a game and you want to put it on the market place but you are curious as to what is involved. I’ll save you some time and just itemize the steps below.

  1. Create an AIR app and publish the .apk file
  2. create a developer profile
  3. pay a one time $25 developer fee
  4. accept the terms to the android market developer distribution agreement
  5. visit the android marketplace webpage
  6. Upload the .apk
  7. upload description and screenshots
  8. publish.

1. Develop app and publish apk

In a previous tutorial I showed how to package an .apk file and deploy it. Since then it has become considerably easier. Assuming you already have an app developed to be published simply go to the publish settings and follow these four steps.

Go to Publish Settings, select Air for Android and then Fill out General Tab

On the bottom make sure to include important folders such as images or xml that may be used by the application.

Create a certificate

All apps in the app store need a valid certificate

link your icons

Path to your icons

create icons for your app. They need to be PNG format.

Hit Publish and your done with Flash.
Now it is time to visit the android marketplace webpage

2. create a developer profile

3. pay a one time $25 developer fee

4. accept the terms to the marketplace agreement

5. visit the android marketplace webpage
6. upload your APK
7. upload your screenshots and description

This is where you will have a chance to market your application so you may want to take your time and create some nice png files to fill the page up. Maybe make a description text that explains what your application or game is about. Android market suggests making a EULA to protect yourself as a developer. For the purposes of the demonstration I did not create one.

You can now publish your application. Congratulations you now have an app on the Android Market. You can search the market by the name of your app and you will see it instantly. I Hope you found this tutorial on publishing your Air applications to the Android Market helpful.
